Betta fish and pearl gourami. Many anabantoids are referred to as gourami which also includes your common siamese fighting fish betta splenden here we will discuss your common gourami from the family osphronemidae and how to look after them. Pearl gourami trichopodus leerii are freshwater fish from the osphronemidae family this family includes lots of different gourami species including the popular dwarf and kissing varieties. I have a single turquoise halfmoon betta in a twenty gallon tank i really want to do a blue theme for my tank not exactly sure why and have fallen in love with the blue dwarf gourami.
He s a very nice gourami. The pearl gourami trichopodus leerii is one of the most beautiful gourami kinds and a renown tank fish. My 4 year old chose the betta he s called frank i also have some guppies who get on fine with both but would like more fish for my 60 litre tank.
Because of the patterns across their body they are sometimes known as diamond lace or mosaic gourami but these names are less common. He thinks he s a catfish. Just like the rest of climbing perches species the gourami has an interesting peculiarity they have a special organ that is called a labyrinth due to its complicated shape and the fish use it to breathe with atmospheric air.
However i have shrimp in with my dwarf gourami who honestly doesn t know he is a gourami. Okay so i have a fully cycled 29 gallon freshwater tank with 7 gold barbs 2 hatchet fish 1 siamese algae eater 1 balloon molly 1 pearl gourami all of these fish are young and small. I do know gouramis love to eat shrimp.
Also pearl gouramis get bigger than others. Maybe if it s a peaceful gourami and betta a big enough tank for them to have their own territories and maybe if the gourami is a female. Female pearl gouramis are peaceful and less flashy but then you don t want the betta to be the more aggressive one which they tend to be.
With that being said he doesn t bother anyone in the tank. He basically schools and pals around with my cories. Some places say the gourami will shred the betta some say that dwarf gourami are generally peaceful with betta.
