Betta Fish Died After 1 Year

I feel that buying a fish at walmart can or could be a bad idea because i heard that sometimes they don t clean out the tanks properly and leave dead fish etc in there rather than taking them out. I m really sad and worried it s my fault he died. I use a water conditioner ant usually wait about an hour or so. After a month my betta died.

Sadly my betta fish named crimson passed away on wednesday which left me with an empty fish tank 5 gal since then. So i went to petsmart yesterday to buy this betta it looked healthy so thats the one i picked i took it home and put it into my fish tank and filled it up with tap sink water is that what killed it i put the water about warm but a little cold when i put my betta into the fish tank it seemed really happy. When it died i just thought maybe i didn t wait long enough.
