In contrary to all the answers written here i m gonna say the ph of a betta tank needs to be acidic.

Depending on the reading you use a water conditioner to adjust the ph balance to the acceptable range. All these decaying vegetation leads the water to be slightly col. For the most part water will maintain a ph near 7 which is considered neutral.
