Betta With Ghost Shrimp
Hello all i introduced ghost shrimp to my 2 5 gallon heated and filtered and live planted tank with one male betta.
Betta with ghost shrimp. Can ghost shrimp eat betta food. Ghost shrimp are relatively hardy and can survive over a broad range of temperatures from 72 to 84 f. Betta fish eat fish flakes insects small crustaceans and other such things.
These are all things that a ghost shrimp will also eat. Ghost shrimp are also smaller than the betta so hopefully the betta won t perceive the ghost shrimp as a threat. Both ghost shrimp and betta fish are native to warmer freshwater shallows so it is no surprise that they can coexist happily.
Again this is ideal for betta who like water at a constant temperature of around 78 f. They were sold as feeder shrimp and it was a test run to see if they could co exist anyway. Never fear it will either work or it won t.
However the chances are that your betta will eat most of the babies. The ideal tank conditions for ghost shrimp and bettas include plenty of hiding places a sandy substrate and plants such as java moss. Ghost shrimp and betta compatibility knowing which tank mates can live with your betta is important if you are a beginner betta owner or a seasoned veteran.
If your aquarium is almost at full capacity then you may need to reconsider getting ghost shrimp. When introducing ghost shrimp to your tank you should do it in groups of 2 4. If your betta kills your ghost shrimp don t worry they re full of nutrients.
They are more likely to emerge from their hiding places during the night as there is less of a chance to be eaten but if they are comfortable enough with their surroundings and other fish in the tank they will regularly be out foraging in the foreground. Ghost shrimp need to be kept in tanks between 65 80ºf and between a ph level of 7 0 8 0. Ghost shrimp are a pretty underrated addition to the aquarium and can be as exciting as watching a fish move around.
