Can betta eggs hatch without male. Some eggs may be overlooked but majority of the eggs should stay afloat. When my first spawn failed because the male ate the eggs and fry i began wondering if there was a technique to hatch the eggs and raise the fry without a father. Shortly thereafter they should hatch into free swimming fry.
Eggs that stay at the bottom will most probably get moudly before they even hatch. It is not common for a betta to lay eggs without the male because the male provides a bubble nest for the bettas eggs. When the eggs do hatch with or without the bubblenest the fry usually can survive without the nest.
Then the eggs will start to wiggle. You remove the male betta when the fry become free swimming. At this point you should remove the male.
Not be fertilized and will not hatch. While it is possible for female betta fish to lay eggs without a male being present the eggs will not be able to hatch and will often rot leading to ammonia and nitrite spikes. If the female has released the eggs without the male present they wont be fertile.
The male father should pick them up and blow them to the nest. Healthy female bettas will always be carrying some eggs and if a male is not present they will constantly reabsorb and recreate eggs. Male or no male the betta will lay eggs and rely on other males to fertilize the egg.
