Female Betta Fish Community Tank
I am thinking of adding a female betta to my 35 g community tank.
Female betta fish community tank. The stocking is currently as follows 4 honey gourami 13 neon tetras 3 male fancy guppies snails 5 cherry shrimp 4 amano shrimp the temp is 75 f but i could turn it up to 77 f and that would work. If you re interested in keeping female bettas together you ll need to set up a sorority tank. While they don t fight like males they can still be aggressive at times.
Our female bettas were added last. Can female bettas live in a community tank. So i have a 30 gallon tank with 1 male blue betta and a 8 gallon tank with 5 female betta sorority with no issues.
However they can do fine in a community tank and the same rules apply. If you plan to keep a sorority of females each additional fish will need an extra 5 gallons. The more space you can give them the less likely they will be to fight.
While single male fish makes a dramatic impression in a small tank female fish really stand out as a group in a larger tank. They settled very quickly. Keeping them as part of a community will require a bigger tank.
Female betta fish are not not nearly as popular as males. I have 1 female betta in my community tank the other occupants are 1 bala shark 6 rosy tetras 5 rasporas 2 adult female guppies 4 baby guppies 6 mths 4 zebra danios 4 leopard danios 3 blue rams 2 chinese algae eaters it is a 240l tank with lots of live plants had no probs so far. That pretty much covers all the basics to keeping a female betta sorority tank.
If you decide to add more fish besides bettas i would recommend that you get a bigger tank and compatible tanks mates. A single female betta needs a tank of at least 10 gallons. They may not be as bright as the boys but female betta fish colors are no less beautiful in a community set up.
