Erythromycin betta fin rot. I am about to begin treating my betta with api em erythromycin for pretty severe fin rot. Occasionally these bacterial pathogens can result in fin and tail rot as well. The primary disease pathogens for use of erythromycin are staphylococcus and streptococcus which often includes many eye and mouth infections of fish.
There are however tell tale signs your fish s fins are being eaten by this pesky bacteria. The dorsal top caudal tail and anal bottom fin are the easiest fins to check and identify if fin rot is affecting your betta. It s also interesting to know that sometimes the fin won t grow back in the same color it was before it could be a few shades darker or lighter.
It is always best to catch any visible fin rot signs or symptoms early because it can quickly progress without attention. Erythromycin can generally be combined safely with triple sulfa for a more wider spectrum treatment especially for use against staphylococcus infections. I had erythromycin leftover from treating blue green algae but it didn t help.
