I m relatively new to the betta keeping world so i ve come to reddit to ask for some much needed advice.
Tank mates for aggressive betta. Never add other aggressive fish species. Avoid tank mates with bright coloring and long fins. You must get at least a 10 gallon tank if you re planning on getting other fish.
Monitor tank mates closely for at least 72 hours or more. Some betta fish will seem to be a bit on the aggressive side while others will appear to be calmer in general. They are ideal for tanks 20 gallons and up and usually do well with betta fish.
This can mean that a certain species of tank mate may get along fine with one betta and then terribly with another. All new tank mates must require similar water parameters. Betta fish are reputed to be feisty aggressive and territorial and are often quoted as bad aquarium mates.
No flaring no jumping and he s usually calm and just chilling on a leaf but like most new fish keepers i m worried. Betta fish need ample space or they ll end up fighting and killing every living creature that gets in their way. Add lots of plants and other decorations for hideouts.
Even though the females tend to be less aggressive than the male bettas each fish is different. Keeping tank mates with betta fish is not recommended for beginners because it could be very challenging. Some females can be territorial and aggressive.
Overly aggressive bettas should be housed by themselves if you don t want an incident. Males bettas are especially territorial in the company of other males which is why they cannot be kept in the same tank. Since female bettas are less aggressive and territorial than males you ll have more options when picking their tank mates.
